Minneapolis, MN, January 4, 2012 – NightOwl Document Management Services, a leading national provider of innovative eDiscovery solutions, announced today that it has added Relativity Assisted Review technology to its Relativity hosted review service.

When compared to traditional document review, Relativity Assisted Review helps case teams achieve significant time and cost savings by applying text analytics technology to their existing review process. It gives them a means of prioritizing relevant documents, and a way to efficiently delegate or make swift decisions on large batches of non-responsive material.

“We believe that predictive coding is the new frontier in document review,” said Tom Palladino, President of NightOwl. “When we’ve compared Relativity Assisted Review to our traditional review methods, we’ve found that it has the potential to save clients 50-70% of review costs. The fact that Assisted Review is integrated into Relativity, a platform clients are already familiar with, is an added bonus that will help make using the technology seamless.”

“We’re excited that NightOwl has decided to offer Relativity Assisted Review,” said Andrew Sieja, President and CEO of kCura, developers of Relativity. “There’s a lot of momentum behind this technology, and we are thrilled to see a growing number of partners providing the advanced review workflow to their clients.”

NightOwl plans to offer Relativity Assisted Review as a fully managed service to clients using Relativity for hosted review and in conjunction with the company’s contract attorney review services.

How Assisted Review Works
Relativity Assisted Review combines technology and process, allowing users to train Relativity on relevant issues by coding statistically sampled subsets of documents. Relativity’s text analytics engine categorizes the remaining documents in the case, based on the small subset of examples. The technology works behind the scenes, so case teams can continue to review documents the same way they always have.

Administrators can validate the accuracy of Relativity’s document categorization by manually reviewing statistically relevant subsets of documents. They can also use reporting tools to gauge review progress and determine whether or not further rounds of review are necessary. Because batches of documents coded by Relativity are randomly sampled using statistical analysis, clients can be confident in their results.

Minneapolis, MN, June 2, 2011 – NightOwl Document Management Services, a leading national provider of innovative eDiscovery solutions, announced today that it has added a new tool to its expanding eDiscovery portfolio by selecting Equivio’s technology for grouping of near-duplicates and email threads.

By eliminating data redundancy, the Equivio solution enables NightOwl to meet the growing demand for tools that expedite and improve the electronic discovery review process. NightOwl intends to offer clients the Equivio technology as a standard component of its eDiscovery services and within its market-leading Relativity review platform.

“We are very excited to have implemented Equivio’s outstanding technology,” said Tom Palladino, President of NightOwl. “By using Equivio’s proven technology to cut through redundant data, we are able to enhance the quality, efficiency and accuracy of the document review process, allowing legal teams to quickly find the data they need to achieve better outcomes.”

The grouping of near-duplicates and email threads allows redundant data to be skipped, while focusing exclusively on the unique information in each document. By enhancing the ease of data identification, Equivio reduces the risk of missing key information. The Equivio groupings also ensure similar documents are treated consistently, increasing review productivity and assisting legal teams to meet tight deadlines.

“As one of the industry’s most reliable and innovative providers of eDiscovery services, NightOwl understands the need for technologies that reduce the cost and complexity of ESI processing and review,” said Amir Milo, CEO of Equivio. “The adoption of Equivio’s solution for near-duplicates and email threads helps NightOwl’s customers to save 30 to 50% in review costs.”

Minneapolis, MN, June 2, 2011 – NightOwl Document Management Services, a leading national provider of innovative eDiscovery solutions, is pleased to announce that two of its technology partners, Clearwell and kCura, have been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the “Leaders” quadrant of the “Magic Quadrant for E-Discovery Software”¹. Gartner’s inaugural report represents an analysis of 24 eDiscovery software providers. Leaders were evaluated based on their completeness of vision and ability to execute, which includes customer experience.

Clearwell was recognized for its ease of use, straightforward pricing model and solid functionality. As such, Gartner describes Clearwell as having “one of the most referenceable brands in the market, with high name recognition and customers reporting outstanding satisfaction with its product.”

kCura was recognized for its Relativity document review platform which Gartner noted “is a product designed in, and for, the present age of ever-increasing volumes, velocity and variety of data.” Further, Gartner reported that “Relativity is now considered “best in class” by many legal end users.”

“The Gartner report confirms what we have known for the last few years – that both Clearwell and Relativity are outstanding, world-class tools for eDiscovery,” said Tom Palladino, President of NightOwl. “Within the Twin Cities, NightOwl is very proud to be the only authorized Clearwell services provider and the only Relativity premium hosting partner.”

According to the Gartner report, “The reason e-discovery is now a pressing issue for most companies is clear: ESI [electronically stored information] in all its many forms dominates in legal proceedings because modern business is mostly conducted using electronic communications and electronic records. Regulators require this ESI to be archived for proof of compliance.” The report also states that “[t]he trend for increased volume, velocity and variety [of ESI] shows no sign of abating. Increasing use of social media for business purposes, cloud provision of IT and the rise of ‘big data’ applications will add to the mountains of material that might be relevant to any legal or regulatory action. This will increase the challenge for enterprises as they seek to reduce the amount of data they produce to only relevant items.”

With the explosion of electronically stored data coupled with the rise in litigation, enterprises are increasingly viewing eDiscovery as a core business process. To help streamline this emerging business process, the Clearwell E-Discovery Platform provides a single, end-to-end solution for legal hold, identification, collection, preservation, processing, analysis, review and production. Clearwell enables enterprises, government agencies and law firms to dramatically reduce the cost and risk of eDiscovery while ensuring defensibility. “We believe that being positioned by Gartner in the Leaders quadrant is a confirmation of Clearwell’s ongoing commitment to meet our customers’ eDiscovery needs through continuous product innovation and unparalleled customer service,” said Kamal Shah, Vice President of Products & Marketing at Clearwell Systems.

Gartner indicated that “The need to ingest, organize, search and produce electronic information quickly for legal purposes has focused the industry’s efforts on creating software that can cope with the volume, velocity and variety of data that lawyers must quickly sift and cull.” To enable users to efficiently review these large volumes of data, Relativity focuses heavily on scalability, and offers features that range from visual data analysis to advanced text analytics, along with the ability to construct and automate sophisticated review workflows.

“It’s an honor to be recognized as a leader in e-discovery software,” said Andrew Sieja, President and CEO of kCura. “The dedication of our clients and the hard work of the team at kCura allow us to continue to build out the capabilities of our platform and provide flexible, scalable, and easy-to-use applications for the legal space.”

NightOwl Becomes the Only Twin Cities Provider of Clearwell 5.0 Services

NightOwl Becomes the Only Twin Cities Provider of Clearwell 5.0 Services

NightOwl Document Management Services, a leading provider of technology-driven litigation support services, is pleased to announce that it recently became the first and only provider of Clearwell 5.0 services in the Twin Cities.

Version 5.0 is Clearwell’s latest release and features new pre-processing, review and production modules that help lawyers pre-process, analyze, search, review, redact, and produce documents within a single product, eliminating the need to use multiple tools and enabling an iterative and defensible eDiscovery process.

The Clearwell Pre-Processing Module provides interactive graphs that enable eDiscovery teams to quickly filter out data by known files (both NSRL NIST list as well as custom lists), custodian, date, file type, and size, significantly reducing downstream processing and review costs.

The Clearwell Review Module enables reviewers to quickly redact documents, apply reason codes, and verify redactions prior to production. Decision-tree tagging using a multi-layer tree structure prevents errors and minimizes the number of clicks needed to accurately tag a document.

The Clearwell Production Module offers a range of production options, including bates stamping, watermarking, custom header/footer, and various export options.

In addition to these three new modules, Clearwell 5.0 delivers over 20 new features and enhancements in its industry-leading processing and early case analysis module.

“NightOwl is excited to offer the expanded features contained in Clearwell 5.0,” said Tom Palladino, President of NightOwl. “Over the last two years, Clearwell has been an extremely successful hosted eDiscovery platform for NightOwl. It’s fast, easy to use, and rock solid. Most importantly, users love it.”
