Processing (Conversion & Extraction)
NightOwl’s capabilities for processing electronic data include, but are not limited to, the ability to handle email and related attachments, loose application files (spreadsheets, word processing documents), and text messaging. NightOwl applies a systematic approach, combined with deep technical resources and an experienced team of professionals to produce the exact results our clients demand.
Clients have two options for processing – preparing for a native file review or converting to TIFF. For native file review, NightOwl provides clients with a load file of their choice that includes the extracted metadata and full text along with a link to the native file. For conversion to TIFF, the electronic data from its native format is converted to a standard TIFF image format while the text and metadata are simultaneously extracted into a searchable database. NightOwl’s processing application also allows files to be stored in their native format and linked to the database, thus providing ready access to document detail that cannot be seen when viewing a TIFF image.
Even with the technology-driven capabilities associated with the processing of electronic data, there are times when relevant information is best captured by physically looking at a document. Often, information such as document type and document characteristics are not available electronically. With traditional bibliographic coding that is completed domestically, NightOwl improves the search and retrieval function of database records created for electronic documents. Both the manually coded information and extracted data are merged into one database record for each converted electronic document. Clients now have a more comprehensive set of tools available to search their databases.
